Young people, feelings and depression

It is important to seek help if you think your child's mental health is at risk. Mental health issues can affect your child's education and learning. If you have concerns that your child is at risk of harming themselves or others, seek immediate help. When mood, emotions or behaviour persistently affect your child's ability to function normally, then it's important to seek help from a health professional. It is important to talk to your child to try to find out what is going on. Sometimes your child's teacher or school counsellor may have also noticed changes in your child's behaviour, so talking to them might be worthwhile.
